Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

What is Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)?

Key Concept:

An integrative journey, when set up appropriately by a trained ketamine psychotherapist, can prime and ignite the mind for permanent changes while minimizing the exposure to biochemical and pharmacologic interventions. This concept is not modern and has been practiced for centuries. What we call a psychedelic assisted psychotherapist can be considered shamanism in many cultures.

Key Distinction:

Much different from the cultural norm where prescription interventions are the solutions to your symptoms with very little to no discussion on your treatment or alternate options.

Changing The Model

Key Concept:

Symptoms of depression, anxiety, insomnia, mania, irritability, psychosis, compulsions, inattention, brain fog, fatigue, headaches, impulsivity, self-harm, hostility, unrealistic personal performance standards, and extremely self-critical can be seen as indicators of cognitive distortions, unprocessed traumas, repressed emotions, maladaptive perfectionism, and dysfunctional self-related beliefs. Defense systems created by the Ego can inhibit the ability to heal the underlying psychology pushing these negative symptoms.

Key Distinction:

Different from the typical medication approach where a pill is often randomly prescribed, we hope for the best, and treatment may be discontinued when symptoms resolve without addressing need to build resilience against future relapses. The truth is after over 30 yrs of antidepressants research has revealed clinical uncertainty about the benefits of an antidepressant and most patients relapse back into negative symptoms at some point regardless of medication adjustments. The goal of KAP is to create something self-sustaining within you.
